TV Ratings: 'Duck Dynasty' Does It Again, Returns to Record 11.8

The episode hit a record 9.6 million viewers, 5.5 million of them adults 18-49. Its demo returns now rival that of most broadcast series, including NBC's The Voice. This season of Duck Dynasty was thrown in jeopardy earlier in the year when the stars of the series, the Robertson family, went into what proved to be months-long salary negotiations. Though they started production on the fourth season to ensure a summer return, contracts were only just signed -- quadrupling their previous compensation and locking them in for multiple seasons, should A&E want to keep the ratings juggernaut around. Thanks to its authentic and engaging characters Duck Dynasty has become more than just a reality show, it is a cultural phenomenon, said A&E GM and executive vp David McKillop.
Source:

Cop. Killer." Just another player in the crowded genre of "Gee, it's tough to be a straight white man." Or, as it has come to be known, "prestige television." The blooming of high-quality serialized fiction on television has hit critical mass, luring writers, directors and stars from the screen formerly known as big and generally driving cocktail and cultural conversation in every medium and demographic. TV is the new quiche, the new black, the new hit single. INTERACTIVE: Fall 2013 TV preview Yet even as the tone, structure and delivery system of the medium diversify, the industry definition of Good Television, as in important, award-winning television, remains infuriatingly narrow. Can women break the antihero's hold on TV?

Television just does not get any more experimental than that. And, as Mary McNamara and Yvonne Villarreal discuss in this week's Talking TV video, "Orange Is the New Black" proves precisely why experiments are so important. Lacking the A-list hype (Kevin Spacey! Robin Wright!) surrounding "House of Cards" and the anticipatory lovefest that led up to the resurrection of "Arrested Development," Jenji Kohan's adaptation of Piper Kerman's memoir, also called "Orange Is the New kim kardashian full tape Black," not only seems buzzier than both those shows combined, it's way more important. Kohan, who made her name on "Weeds," is not kim kardashian clothing just a maestro of counterintuitive female characters, she also knows how to construct and market a show, Villarreal points out, by using flashbacks to overcome the story's intrinsic claustrophobia and Twitter to create a conversation without the traditional broadcast time line.
Source:,0,1323716.story

The cop has to kill Julian, and mom is willing to seduce anyone to get what she craves. Unlike his fanboy, action-loving contemporaries, Refnas violence actually feels violent a though we donat actually see as much a because he captures the crushing rush of emotion that fuels physical conflict. In fact, one of the most violent a and oddly funny a scenes involves Kristin Scott Thomas checking into a luxury hotel. It may well be the best entrance of Thomasas illustrious career, and it proves you donat need fat brush strokes if the canvas is well composed. Refn does not let his colours bleed, and by keeping each element contained, the true nature of tragedy emerges through the gaps because itas the characters that insist on mingling the pigments.
Read more:

Movie review: Only God Forgives

His memoir, The Billy Bob Tapes, is one of the best books I've read this year, offering free-wheeling commentary about his film career, passion for music and heartfelt appreciation of the South. Last night I watched Thornton's new film, Jayne Mansfield's Car , which just became available on demand. It marks his return to writing and directing; the last flick he helmed and penned was 2001's Daddy and Them. First off, Jayne Mansfield's Car boasts an incredible ensemble cast that includes Thornton, Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick and Frances O'Connor. Set in 1969 in rural Alabama, much of it is a father-son tale about three veterans of World War II and their dad (Duvall), a tight-lipped WWI vet. Their lives, already wrought with tension, are thrown into disarray when a British family, led by Hurt, arrives for a visit.
Read more:

It predicts the box office in the world's most populous nation will grow at a year-on-year rate of 15.6 percent over the next five years and hit $5.5 billion by 2017. In January to June, domestic films outperformed imported ones by 65 percent at the Chinese box office. That was a huge reversal from the same period last year, when proceeds from imported films almost doubled those of domestic productions. NICHE MARKETS Hollywood blockbusters remain hugely popular in China, but the success of local content is being driven by a bigger and broader audience as cinemas expand into second- and third-tier cities, where movie-goers tend to watch domestic films. "For viewers who grew up watching TV and videos from the Internet, they are more familiar with and more receptive to movies with local culture and human interest elements," said Yin Hong, director of the Center for Film and Television Studies at Tsinghua University. Apple Teases Mac Pro in New Movie Theater Ads

I considered Steve Jobs one of the worlds greatest corporate presenters because he always explained the problem that his product would solve. The introduction of iTunes Music Store in 2003 is perhaps the best example of this approach. In one presentation Steve Jobs turned around public opinion, convincing customers that it was in their best interest to pay for something (songs) that they could otherwise get for free at the time. In this video clip you can watch Jobs demonstrate the upsides and downsides of the status quo, followed by his solution, the 99 cent song on the iTunes Music Store. Your audience needs to understand the problem your idea solves. Dont leave them guessing. Explain it clearly.
Source:

"Steve's a fruitarian," one of his buddies says -- a reference to the unusual diet of her young son, who once went a whole week eating only apples. It's not clear whether such a scene actually took place. According to Isaacson's book, which was written with Jobs' cooperation, the early business plan for Apple was hammered out over a period of weeks at Markkula's house. There's no mention in the book of what they ate. Wozniak is almost a minor character The shy Woz has never gotten enough credit for the early success of Apple, and he fades into the background in the movie as well, lost in the shadow cast by Jobs' larger-than-life persona. The real-life Wozniak more... didn't cooperate with the makers of "Jobs" -- he's apparently been consulting instead on the upcoming Sorkin biopic -- and maybe that explains why his role feels underwritten. The filmmakers also took some creative liberties with a few of Wozniak's most prominent scenes. One shows Wozniak startling Jobs in redirected his office late one night in 1985 by telling him that he's leaving Apple.
Source:
